WHY FRIENDS MATTER

The Friends layer does the audience-development work.

A community cinema's hardest year is its first. Without a returning core, programming choices have to be defensive — only safe titles fill thirty seats every time. With a Friends layer, the room earns the freedom to take risks.

Friends bring three things: returning faces at every screening, programming dialogue through members-only meetings, and a financial floor that lets us put on the Kieślowski retrospective in a city that already has the multiplexes.

Walk-in tickets are sold per screening at every event — Bath Electric Picture House is open to the public. Friends just see what's coming first, and have a seat at the conversation about what comes next.

PARTNERSHIPS & SUPPORT

What we're looking for.

From the regional film sector and from Bath's cultural institutions. Not sponsorship — alignment.

From Film Hub South West

  • Peer network — connections to other community cinema operators across the region.
  • Programming guidance — what's already well-served, where the regional gaps sit.
  • Training bursaries — first-time exhibitor learning curve.
  • Audience-development advice — building from a cold launch to a returning base.
  • Light-touch programming partnerships where they fit.

From Bath partners

  • Bath Spa University Modern Languages — World Cinema Friday partnership target.
  • Bath Festival & Jane Austen Festival — Bath on Film tie-ins.
  • Local journalists, academics, subject-matter guests — rotating Doc Club discussion leads.
  • Other cultural institutions in central Bath — programming dialogue, audience cross-pollination.
